HERITAGE

Letter H

Ever since I started blogging in 2007, a few of my blogfriends unfortunately passed away.

As there is no heritage law to inherit a blog, these blogs are still floating around in the Internet world. Some of them had a mention from the family that the Blog owner had past away. Others are still there without any explanation at all and you only know from others that the blogowner is not there anymore.

So what will happen to your blog ? It will stay as if the owner was still alive, only the blog has no new posts.

Maybe our great great grandchildren can still read the blog of their grandmas or grandpas and know a little more about their lives as what their parents or grandparents had told them. That in itself is a good thing.

I would have loved to see a blog of my grandma, but when she was born in 1894 there was not even a telephone. So many progresses have been made ever since, although the first blogs only appeared around 2005, and they were mostly American.

Today there are countless blogs floating around Internet world and from all continents !

In fact we will never die at least not in Internet and stay there forever, unless you leave it as a heritage to somebody who could continue or delete it.

  1. I've seen a similar post from a blogger friend before. You can apparently will your Face Book page to your descendants. But I don't know about Blogger... I wonder if anyone would think to post on my blog that I had passed on!

  2. I've wondered about old abandoned blogs. I think if no one posts to a blog for x amount of time (a year?) the blog will no longer be available to be seen, even by grandkids. Perhaps I am wrong but that appears to have happened to several blogs I used to follow.

  3. An interesting observation. Leaving it for later members of the family is a good idea.

  4. What a fascinating thought! I have known several favorite blogs to disappear, and always wondered what happened.

I have to pay Typepad a small annual fee for my blog. It's automatic renewal, but last year we had to change our card because of a number theft. We have a lot of auto-pays and we notified most of them, but forgot Typepad. So last week I got a polite email saying to please update our card info. It said that if it wasn't paid by the due date my blog would still be there but I wouldn't be able to create new posts. So I guess that means that if I kick the bucket somebody else could still post to my blog. Until someone canceled it. Wow. I guess it wouldn't be my problem at that point though.

  5. I hate it when a favourite blog disappears. Was there an awful tragedy or did they just get bored? I will never know.
I hope my children will remember to do a farewell post for me but I think they will be too busy sorting out my life and collections of amazing objects/rubbish to bother.

  6. I wasn't thinking of changing the temporary for the eternal any time soon, but it's definitely something to think about.

  7. Very contemplative post for H ~ Heritage is a strong link to our ancestors and I have reflected on that myself ~ Wonder what my son would do with my blogs ~ One person I know had books made of her blog ~ a thought?

    Happy Week to you,

  9. My friend Edna in Massachusetts has a blog book that she makes each year since she has been blogging that way her family will have a history of her life. I still see C.C.'s blog and she passed away in September 2010 but her son went on her blog and told everyone she passed. It is sad when you think about it. Your blog is here for as long as life goes on. Good thought provoking post. Have a great weekend!

  12. Good point. I never thought of it, but I kinda like the idea of great grandchildren or even grandchildren being able to read it.

    =)

  13. No-one would renew my domain name so it would die.

I was checking links in a post of mine from 2007. So many sites have disappeared. I'm pleased to see that you are still writing.

  14. Blogs change over the years--even Jenny's. I always loved her Saturday Centus, but sadly, it is no more. And the people who participate in AlphabeThursday have changed so much. Well, except for us! We're still around, thankfully. I miss the old days, don't you? xoxox

  15. Another something else to put on my list for my executor to deal with. Hmmm, maybe I'll write my last post--about my demise--and have the executor post it. That would be fun. :-)

  16. Wow. I have never even thought about this, but you're totally right.

I know of a few people who have passed away and whose blogs live on.

It is interesting to think of our descendants reading what we've written.

Wow. I'm definitely going to be thinking about this for awhile.

Thanks for linking to the letter H.

    A+
