SATURDAY's FUNNY NEWS

For once, very much appreciated !

The motorway around Brussels is called "The Ring". To protest against the very bad state of the road full of holes, a "commando" calling themselves "The Lords of the fucking Ring" decorated the road with painted hubcaps and had a lot of success amongst the population despite their scary look ! Even the police who had to evacuate them did it with a big smile ! They have cars too ! Hopefully now the government will find some money for the roads and not only for their own big cars.

SHOW & TELL

If you want to use your open fire in Belgium, you have to have the chimney cleaned once a year by an official chimney sweeper who gives you then a certificate that the chimney is clean. Otherwise in case of fire the fire insurance wouldn't pay.

I don't know why I only thought about our open fire in March, had it cleaned

and now we enjoy it again, i.e I enjoy it, Mr. G has his eyes glued on the TV screen !

FUN MONDAY - School lunch memories

Faye our host this week had the nice idea of school lunch memories.

I never had lunch at school for the simple reason that the German schools start at 8 and finish at 1 pm. Then I went home and had lunch.

But I remember in primary school we all had sandwiches for the break at 10 am. They were awful. It was just after Worldwar II and there was no choice, there was nothing to eat and everybody ate just to stay alive. It was a grey bread (there was nothing else) which I remember had no taste at all. On that my mother put whatever she could get, cheese or slices of sausages or ham. By the time I could eat it it was all dry because there was only paper for wrapping sandwiches.

The day my mother bought the first plastic bags or whatever it was the sandwich was much better because it wasn't dry. What an event for me.

Those who had something to eat shared often with those who had nothing. That happened too. I don't remember to have eaten a banana or an orange at that time. My first orange I got from Santa Claus when I was about 10 or 11. Bananas came far later. All we had were apples, but I never took one to school.

One day when I bit in my sandwich, it cracked in my mouth. I spit out and it was a big beetle which had probably been in the bread dough. I still can hear that cracking !

Later of course it was different, but I don't remember anymore what kind of sandwich I took to highschool.

WEEKLY WINNERS

the brush

We have an open fire since we built the house and used it too. But then suddenly I didn't care anymore about open fires and romantic flames, and Mr. G. hated cleaning the open fire anyway so for 15 years we didn't use it because we had fake wood in there which "burnt" with electricity.

This winter when it was so cold I suddenly dreamt about warm flames and open fire, so I had the chimney sweeper come to clean the chimney, which he did and only found cobwebs ! I still don't know why I waited until March !

Now I could enjoy the open fire but I look as the man above, I have a thick cheak and horrible toothache. That's why my weekly winners are so poor !
